DUBAI // A 24-year-old Indian man who asked an airport inspector where the exit was had 1.9 kilograms of marijuana in his possession, Dubai Criminal Court has heard.
Prosecutors said that on the morning of January 11 H K arrived at Dubai International Airport from his home country. As he was leaving to head outside, he stopped a Dubai Customs inspector and enquired where the exit was.
“He looked tense, so I asked him for his passport but he wouldn’t hand it to me, therefore I had him wait and got his luggage inspected,” said Emirati inspector EA, 19.
The inspector said that the man was searched but nothing untoward was found on him. His bags were also opened but the inspectors could see nothing until EA noticed a strange thickness in the bottom of the bag.
“When I cut open the bottom of the bag, he started hitting on his face with both hands. It was then when I found the drugs,” said EA.
HK did not enter a plea on Thursday morning as there was no translator present. The next hearing will be on March 27 to arrange for one.
