Etihad Airways will re-route its flights to avoid conflict airspace in Iraq, the airline announced on Saturday. The decision follows the deterioration of the security situation in parts of the country.
Last week, Etihad announced that it had suspended all flights to Erbil with immediate effect and until further notice.
“The safety of Etihad Airways’ passengers and staff is of paramount importance, and the airline will continue to monitor the security situation closely,” a statement released by the airline said.
Flights to Basra and Baghdad, which have a daily risk assessment, continue to operate as normal.
Emirates Airline last week announced it would suspend flights to Erbil beginning August 12 for “operational reasons”.
