DUBAI // A female janitor who stole a diamond watch at the Dubai Judicial Institute has been found guilty of theft.
Bangladeshi A M, 25, was jailed for three months by Dubai Criminal Court after the theft at the institute on Al Rebat Street, in Garhoud.
The court heard that on May 31, she stole the Dh30,000 Bulgari watch after Emirati employee B B left it on the side of a sink in a bathroom at the institute.
The Emirati staff member later remembered that she had left the Bulgari watch and went back to the toilet to get it.
B B, 25, told the court: “I went back at 3pm but did not find the watch.”
The next day, she asked the janitor whether she had seen the missing timepiece.
B B said: “She said the watch had diamonds on it and that it was expensive. It was strange because I didn’t tell her any details about the watch.”
She became suspicious and reported the incident to the police.
When officers apprehended A M, they found the watch in her possession.
In court, the Bangladeshi pleaded guilty to theft and asked for leniency and mercy.
She will be deported after serving her prison term.
