Barry Zito picked up his first win in his sixth start this year as the San Francisco Giants beat the LA Dodgers 3-1. Zito struck out five to heap more misery on the Dodgers, who have yet to win since Manny Ramirez was suspended for 50 games for using a banned drug. The Dodgers had set a Major League record after winning their first 13 home games of the season before Ramirez's suspension. Elsewhere, Philadelphia ended a run of two games without a win as Cole Hamels pitched six solid innings in a 10-6 win over Atlanta.
Jesus Flores and Adam Dunn both hit home runs as the Washington Nationals edged the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-4 while Carlos Delgado hit a three run home as the New York Mets had a 7-3 victory the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Houston Astros beat the San Diego Padres 2-0. Johnny Cueto limited St Louis to one run in seven innings as Cincinnati won 6-4 win and Ryan Braun's two-run homer helped the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Chicago Cubs 3-2.
