Zaheer to be fit for opener

Zaheer Khan, India's premier swing bowler, is facing a race to regain fitness from a shoulder injury to play in the World Twenty20 starting on June 5. The 30-year-old, who has more than 400 wickets to his name in international cricket, is undergoing rehabilitation in South Africa after he was injured during the Indian Premier League (IPL), which finished on Sunday. "He is working with a South African doctor and an update will be issued soon by the BCCI [Board of Control for Cricket in India]," an unnamed member of the Indian team's support staff told the Times of India.

"[But] let me tell you his recovery is on track and he is expected to play the first game," he added. Holders India play their first game against Bangladesh on June 6. * Reuters
