Diego Maradona's allure has resulted in Al Wasl receiving an invitation to play in a competition in the United States next year that could see them become the first Arab club to compete in the country.
The Argentine's capture last month has certainly been a boon for the Dubai-based side's international profile and club officials received an offer earlier this week to participate in the tournament to be held in Detroit, Michigan, between February 4-12. The club's hierarchy are mulling the proposal - the eight-day tournament is being conducted in the middle of the Pro League season - before a decision is made on whether to accept.
Dinamo Bucharest, the Romanian club, have already confirmed their involvement.
The US is a popular destination for pre-season matches among several European clubs.
Barcelona, Manchester United and Glasgow Celtic are regular visitors as they fine-tune their preparations before the start of their domestic seasons. However, Maradona's arrival has undoubtedly heightened expectations for next season with qualification for the 2012/13 Asian Champions League a priority. Wasl missed out this term following a limp 2-0 defeat at home to Sharjah in the final game of the season.
Wasl officials may decide a sojourn to the US would be an unnecessary distraction.
