The UAE stayed on course to reprise their Asian Games medal-winning performance of four years ago when the Emirati footballers registered a 3-1 win on Friday over Vietnam in Incheon, South Korea.

Saeed Al Kathiri gave them a first-half lead and Saeed Al Meqbaali doubled it just after the hour. Vietnam pulled one back through Nguyen Ho Nong before Bandar Al Ahbabi fired the third in added time for the UAE to reach the quarter-finals on Sunday against the winner of Friday’s match between North Korea and Indonesia.

In 2010, the UAE took the silver medal in China.
