Competitive sport in Dubai is gradually reopening, after the Dubai Sports Council announced the resumption of marine and water sports competitions.
A number of events are planned for the coming days off the coast of Dubai and at Hatta Dam Lake.
The resumption is the latest move by the Sports Council to reopen the sports sector after its closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The decision is in line with the government of Dubai’s plan to gradually open all sectors of life in the Emirate,” a statement from the Sports Council said.
“The Council has prepared a detailed list of protocols in collaboration with relevant authorities to ensure the safety of everyone involved in these competitions.
“The order of resumption will be limited to events that conform to these safety protocols and guidelines, and obtain prior approval from Dubai Sports Council.”
No fans or visitors will be permitted at the venues, and the age limitations remain. No children below 12, or people above the age of 60 are allowed to compete.
“Staff older than 60 years of age will also not be allowed inside the facilities, along with anyone suffering from chronic or respiratory illness,” the Sports Council said.
“Wearing of masks will be mandatory for everyone, and the Council also recommends use of protective goggles, or face shields.”

His life in brief: Born in a village near Galilee, he lived in exile for most of his life and started writing poetry after high school. He was arrested several times by Israel for what were deemed to be inciteful poems. Most of his work focused on the love and yearning for his homeland, and he was regarded the Palestinian poet of resistance. Over the course of his life, he published more than 30 poetry collections and books of prose, with his work translated into more than 20 languages. Many of his poems were set to music by Arab composers, most significantly Marcel Khalife. Darwish died on August 9, 2008 after undergoing heart surgery in the United States. He was later buried in Ramallah where a shrine was erected in his honour.
