ABU DHABI // The UAE women footballers face the all-Moroccan Abu Dhabi Chess Association in a third round game tonight, and a win for them will secure an early semi-final spot in the Armed Forces Officers Club Ramadan Festival's sevens tournament. The Moroccans are tough opponents and come into the match after a 4-1 triumph over the national team of Lebanon. In the other fixtures, Al Shabab of Dubai downed the Bahrain national team 4-0, the Egyptian club Wadi Dajla thrashed Damascus 5-0 and Al Rabea from Algeria whipped Oman 9-1.
In the men's event, Infantry beat Abu Dhabi University 5-0, Suquorul Emarat drubbed Andaleeb 6-0, Al Rabea overcame Gasco 3-1, Phone Sat edged out Unix 1-0 and Organza outclassed National Transport 15-1. Capital Police posted 9 past Daman, Al Nuaimi Group crushed Dunlop 11-0, Esnaad beat Shawamekh 6-0, Stars got the better of Contractors Association 3-1 and Ankabout pipped Al Mustaqbal 1-0. Al Shabab joined Club Horse from Egypt and Al Jazira in the last four of the women's volleyball tournament despite going down to the all-Filipina AC Spikers 15-13 15-9. In the other game, Al Ahli overcame another all-Filipina side Spike Force 25-20 11-25 15-13.
