The UAE completed a successful tour of Canada late on Sunday after beating the hosts in the second and final Twenty20 international by seven wickets in Toronto late.
The touring party had come from behind to draw their four-day ICC Intercontinetal Cup match against Canada after coming away with wins in back-to-back ICC World Cricket League (WCL) Championship one-day matches. They also triumphed in the first T20 match by 72 runs on Saturday.
After winning the toss on Sunday, Canada opted to bat first but found themselves in familiar territory after having lost early wickets. But for an 86-run partnership for fourth wicket between Ashish Bagai (46) and Raza-ur-Rehman (47), it is unlikely the North American side woud have got more than the 137 runs they posted in the allotted 20 overs.
For the visitors, the off-spinner Nasir Aziz was among the wickets, this time taking three wickets for 21 runs. Mohammad Naveed, the medium pacer, chipped in with two for 30.
All the UAE batsmen got into double figures with Swapnil Patil (36 off 29 balls) and Mohammad Azam (36 off 33 balls) top-scoring as they got home with eight deliveries to spare.
All in all, it was an important tour for the UAE with qualification for the 2015 World Cup at stake. They put themselves in a strong position for that after winning both 50-over-a-side games. The Emirates side are up to 14 points in the WCL table - one behind Scotland and the Netherlands - in the battle for second place and the automatic qualification for the World Cup behind Ireland, who have already secured first place.
