Khalid Mubarak, the UAE captain, expects his team to bounce back the next time they take to the course despite the disappointment of a lowly finish in the Arab Golf Championship.
The national team came in seventh overall despite producing a late charge in the 30th running of the competition which concluded at the Citrus Golf Club at Hammamet in Tunisia on Sunday.
"We had prepared well for the championship, but things somehow didn't turn out to our expectations," Mubarak, the manager and captain, said.
"You do feel a bit disappointed, but the boys did try very hard. This is golf. "You have got to remain patient and wait for your turn. The team is determined to use this experience as a springboard to greater things at other international events later this year." Khalid Yousuf shot a superb 71 while Abdullah Al Musharrekh returned with a solid 72 despite a bogey-bogey finish to contribute to the team's score along with Hassan Al Musharrekh (79) on the final day.
Their combined final day's tally of a gross 222 was their best efforts in the championship after they opened with a score of 237 and followed it with a fine 232 on the second and penultimate day. Much was expected from the in-form Ahmed Musharrekh, but the plus-two handicapper failed to deliver his best under pressure and had to settle for a disappointing 80, a score which, in the end, did not count towards the team's combined score.
The UAE team, who finished runners-up to Bahrain in the last edition of the event, had their chances to move up the leaderboard. However, inconsistency undid their hard work as they finished well behind Egypt, the winners, with Bahrain, the defending champions,in second place. The UAE women's team was making a first appearance in an international event and Eida al Mehairbi and Rabab al Haj raked in a top-five finish.

$1,000 award for 1,000 days on madrasa portal
Daily cash awards of $1,000 dollars will sweeten the Madrasa e-learning project by tempting more pupils to an education portal to deepen their understanding of math and sciences.
School children are required to watch an educational video each day and answer a question related to it. They then enter into a raffle draw for the $1,000 prize.
“We are targeting everyone who wants to learn. This will be $1,000 for 1,000 days so there will be a winner every day for 1,000 days,” said Sara Al Nuaimi, project manager of the Madrasa e-learning platform that was launched on Tuesday by the Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, to reach Arab pupils from kindergarten to grade 12 with educational videos.
“The objective of the Madrasa is to become the number one reference for all Arab students in the world. The 5,000 videos we have online is just the beginning, we have big ambitions. Today in the Arab world there are 50 million students. We want to reach everyone who is willing to learn.”
