The National's Sport cover for the Tuesday, April 14 issue, featuring Raheem Sterling who struck once as Liverpool climbed to within four points of Manchester City with a 2-0 win over Newcastle United.

The victory put Liverpool back on track for a top-four challenge in the Premier League, and, as John McAuley writes, "helps restore Sterling's reputation".

“Raheem Sterling sculpted a script to win back hearts,” adds McAuley, but, “whether Sterling is around to lead their challenge through the next campaign remains to be seen.

“Despite his contribution here, bridges still require rebuilding.”

That will be especially important in light of the controversy surrounding Sterling and his use of nitrous oxide that also emerged on Monday night.

“It will be dealt with internally,” said manager Brendan Rodgers.

“Like I’ve said before, young players make mistakes. He is a young kid who is in the spotlight now. He knows the demands of being a top class player and professional, both on and off the field.”
