Transfer talk: Celtic's Victor Wanyama looking past Southampton

Kenyan midfielder no longer in talks with Southampton while Chelsea signs German forward Andre Schuerrle.

Victor Wanyama appeared to be on his way out of Celtic and the Scottish Premier League south to Southampton in the English Premier League. But that deal seems to have gone cold.

Coveted Kenyan midfielder Victor Wanyama will not be moving from Celtic to Southampton, according to the player's agent.

Wanyama, 21, looked set to leave the Scottish Premier League champions after Celtic accepted a fee from Southampton, believed to be in excess of £12 million (Dh68m).

However, Wanyama's representative, Ivan Modia, said there are no longer in any talks with Southampton, and the player, who scored in Celtic's shock Uefa Champions League win over Barcelona last season, is likely to look elsewhere.

Premier League newcomers Cardiff City are said to be monitoring Wanyama's situation. Arsenal and Manchester United have also been linked in the past.

"We are not in talks with Southampton and have not been since their final offer of terms, which was more than two weeks ago," Modia told Sky Sports.

"The news of the fee being agreed may just be coming out now, but we see little sense in a fee being agreed if there is no reasonable prospect of the player's terms being met."

Elsewhere, Chelsea have confirmed the signing of German international forward Andre Schuerrle from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen on a five-year contract.

The two clubs reached an agreement for Schuerrle, 22, earlier this month, and he becomes the first signing under returning manager Jose Mourinho.

No transfer fee was disclosed.

Promoted side Hull City have completed the signing of defender Curtis Davies from Birmingham City.

The 28-year-old centre-back signed a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Davies has previously played for Premier League teams West Bromwich Albion and Aston Villa. He made 89 appearances for Birmingham City, scoring 11 goals.
