Toronto down again



The Toronto Blue Jays suffered a fifth straight defeat as Derek Lowe pitched into the eighth inning and drove in the game-winning run to lead the Atlanta Braves to a 4-3 victory. Meanwhile, in Boston Omir Santos hit a two-run homer off Jonathan Papelbon with two outs in the ninth inning as the New York Mets rallied to beat the Red Sox 3-2. In Los Angeles, Juan Pierre drew a walk with the bases loaded in the 10th to score the game-winning run as the Dodgers edged out the Angles 5-4 to remain eight and a half games clear of San Diego at the top of the National League West after the Padres rallied to beat the Chicago Cubs 3-1.

The Angles slipped three games behind Texas at the top of the National League West after Nelson Cruz homered twice to power the Rangers to a 6-3 victory over the Houston Astros. Elsewhere, Jason Bartlett had three RBIs and two hits as the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Florida Marlins 10-3. Evan Longoria hit his major league leading 48th RBI of the season in eighth inning to break the tie. * PA Sport
