The financial turmoil which sent Rangers to the lowest tier of Scottish football could be set for an unlikely retelling on the silver screen.
The film rights to the controversial takeover of the Glasgow football giants have been acquired from Craig Whyte, the former chairman, by the Worthington Group after they bought a stake in one of his companies.
Whyte bought an 85 per cent stake in the 54-time former Scottish champions from previous owner Sir David Murray for just £1 (Dh6) two years ago, but Rangers were placed into administration in February last year, with debts of more than Dh675m.
Scotland’s football chiefs elected to send the club down three divisions following the collapse. They won the Scottish Third Division title earlier this month.
The company confirmed its plans to exploit the film rights to Whyte’s role in Rangers collapse, in what could be the ultimate riches-to-rags story.
In a statement to the UK stock exchange, it confirmed the stake in Whyte’s firm, adding: “Those assets include the book, film and television rights to the two takeovers of The Rangers Football Club in 2011 and 2012 as it relates to Craig Whyte.
“It is intended that these rights will be commercialised in due course.”
Rangers have appeared on the big screen before, in 2000 as the cup finalists who beat fictional side Kilnockie in the Scottish FA Cup final in the Robert Duvall and Michael Keaton movie A Shot At Glory – which also featured current Rangers manager Ally McCoist as Kilnockie’s star striker, Jackie McQuillan.

TEACHERS' PAY - WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Pay varies significantly depending on the school, its rating and the curriculum. Here's a rough guide as of January 2021:
- top end schools tend to pay Dh16,000-17,000 a month - plus a monthly housing allowance of up to Dh6,000. These tend to be British curriculum schools rated 'outstanding' or 'very good', followed by American schools
- average salary across curriculums and skill levels is about Dh10,000, recruiters say

Baked goods - Most cakes, cookies, pie crusts and crackers contain shortening, which is usually made from partially hydrogenated vegetable oil. Ready-made frosting is another source of trans fat.
Snacks - Potato, corn and tortilla chips often contain trans fat. And while popcorn can be a healthy snack, many types of packaged or microwave popcorn use trans fat to help cook or flavour the popcorn.
Fried food - Foods that require deep frying — french fries, doughnuts and fried chicken — can contain trans fat from the oil used in the cooking process.
Refrigerator dough - Products such as canned biscuits and cinnamon rolls often contain trans fat, as do frozen pizza crusts.
