Roger Federer took a step closer to retaining the Australian Open title with a 7-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Czech No 19 seed Tomas Berdych.
Federer, 36, is chasing his 20th grand slam title and will meet South Korea's Hyeon Chung for a place in Sunday's final.
