MADRID // Injured world number one Rafael Nadal may not recover in time for Spain's Davis Cup final away to Argentina later this month, his trainer and uncle was quoted as saying today. Nadal has tendinitis in his right knee and was forced to pull out of the season-ending Masters Cup in Shanghai which began on Sunday. He also had to retire from his Paris Masters quarter-final against Nikolay Davydenko last month.

"Right now his inclusion in the Davis team is difficult because the test did not go well," Toni Nadal told the Spanish daily Marca newspaper ahead of the Nov 21-23 tie in Mar del Plata. "There are very few options for Rafa to be there as he is feeling pain from what he is trying to do on court," he added. A statement on Nadal's official website said the Mallorcan would be in Barcelona today for more tests.

"The doctor tells me that the body needs to do its work and regenerate," Nadal said. "That's all." The French Open and Wimbledon champion has blamed his injury on what he sees as the overloaded ATP tennis calendar. *Reuters
