Scotland angry after Czech draw

Craig Levein, the Scotland manager, believes the referee was conned in match against Czech Republic, and Rooney hopes something can be done about racism.

Craig Levein, the Scotland manager, claimed the Dutch referee Kevin Blom was "conned" after his side were held to a 2-2 draw by the Czech Republic in their Euro 2012 Group I qualifier at Hampden Park yesterday.

Scotland led twice through Kenny Miller and Darren Fletcher, but the visitors drew level for a second time when Michal Kadlec converted a controversial late penalty.

Levin felt Jan Rezek dived for the penalty when substitute Danny Wilson challenged him in the Scotland penalty area in injury time. The Scotland manager also claimed Christophe Berra should have been awarded a penalty even later in the game but instead Blom booked him for diving.

"The referee was conned for the first penalty and Christophe was clipped for our one," Levein said on Sky Sports. "It's cost us today. It's easy to blame the referee, but when you get two decisions like that you feel aggrieved."

The draw leaves Scotland third in their group behind Spain and the Czechs.

Elsewhere, Uefa will study their match delegate's report before deciding whether to take action against the Bulgarian Football Federation over racist abuse during Friday's Euro 2012 qualifier with England.

Several of England's black players were subjected to monkey noises throughout their team's 3-0 win at the Vasil Levski Stadium, prompting English officials to complain to their Bulgarian counterparts after the match.

Bulgaria coach Lothar Matthaus was dismayed by the abuse and Wayne Rooney, the England striker, admitted:"As players, we could hear it on the pitch. It has been going on for years and it is not right. It needs to stop and hopefully something can be done about it."

The issue of racism has been a persistent problem for England in away matches in eastern Europe. The English Football Associtaion also demanded an international with Spain in 2009 should be played in Seville rather than Madrid after encountering racism during a previous game in the capital.
