"He is missing his family in Marseille," Warnock told the London Evening Standard. "If we get a big offer from a club in France that obviously gives him a chance to be closer to them. That would be a big pull," Warnock added: "My advice to him is to stay until Christmas, get some experience and show people what he can do. That may fall on deaf ears unfortunately. It's sad. I don't think I have ever spent so much time trying to get the best out of one individual and I think he will regret leaving."
Liverpool
Steven Gerrard, the Liverpool captain, will miss the club's pre-season Asian tour to continue his recovery from a groin surgery. The 31-year-old midfielder will continue his recuperation at Liverpool's training ground while his teammates visit China, Malaysia and Singapore. The squad departs on Sunday.
Gerrard said: "After sitting down and talking with the medical experts and technical staff, it's been decided that the best course of action is for me to continue my rehabilitation programme." The England international has not played since March.
[ Newcastle United ]
Newcastle will remain patient as they attempt to land Alan Pardew's remaining transfer targets. The club have already signed the French pair Yohan Cabaye and Sylvain Marveaux, as well as Demba Ba, the Senegal forward. But the manager still hopes to make two more signings.
It is understood Newcastle have tabled a bid of around £7m for Paris Saint-Germain's Turkish frontman Mevlut Erding. Speaking on BBC Radio Newcastle, Pardew, said: "We have got to be diligent and patient. We are starting the season with five new players - Kevin [Nolan] obviously has gone - but we are in such a better position already. But we are poised and I still think we can bring in maybe two more offensive players. We will have to see."

Paul Scholes, the retired Manchester United midfielder, has rubbed salt into Arsenal's wounds, accusing the London club of being all style and no substance. Speaking ahead of his testimonial match at Old Trafford next month, Scholes said that Sir Alex Ferguson, the United manager, would never have allowed his team to go six years without winning a trophy as has been the case at Arsenal.
"They just flatter to deceive," Scholes said. "They do play the best football to watch at times, but what is the point of that if you are not winning anything? It doesn't irritate me that people say they're the best footballing team because while they are doing that, we [United] are winning games."

Everton have re-signed the teenage Sporting Lisbon defender Eric Dier on a season-long loan. The 17 year old initially linked up with the club in January, playing in the Under 18 side which won the Premier League academy league final in May. A new deal has been struck for a whole season this time around and Dier, who was born in England but moved to Portugal when he was seven, will join pre-season training once the formalities of his paperwork have been completed.
