Sebastian Vettel's chase for a fourth successive Formula One title and the Pakistan v South Africa test are just two of the events our Paul Oberjuerge highlights for the coming week.
1. Vettel on the cusp tomorrow: The German driver can secure a fourth successive F1 championship if he wins the Japanese Grand Prix and Fernando Alonso finishes ninth or lower. Vettel, above, would become only the third driver to win four consecutive season titles, joining Michael Schumacher and Juan-Manuel Fangio.
2. Pakistan-South Africa, first Test, Monday: The Proteas, captained by Graeme Smith, are the world's No 1 Test side, and they face Pakistan in the latter's home away from home, the UAE, on Day 1 of the first Test. The competition begins at 10am at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
3. Mena Tour final round, Wednesday: The Ras Al Khaimah Classic marks the sixth of 10 stops on the regional tour, and the final 18 holes of the competition will be held at the Tower Links Golf Club, beneath the Hajar Mountains. Pakistan's Mohammad Munir, left, is the defending champion. England's Zane Scotland has won three of the five Mena events this year.
4. Fifa U17 World Cup, Thursday: The biggest football event in UAE history begins with the Emirati youngsters meeting Honduras in the second game of a double-header at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Brazil and Slovakia play in the early game. The 24-team event continues to November 9.
5. Fina Swimming World Cup, Thursday: Thirteen medallists from the London 2012 Olympics, including Chad LeClos, above, the conqueror of Michael Phelps, compete in the meet at Dubai's Hamdan bin Mohammed Sports Complex. Also in the water during the two-day event: Oussama Mellouli and Katinka Hosszu.
