Rooney back as United face Fulham

There is air of invincibility around Manchester United these days, but the Red Devils are far from complacent. But Fulham are up next tonight in the Premier League and United, who still have hopes of finishing the season with five trophies, will go five points clear of Liverpool at the top if they win the game. The United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will rotate his squad in a bid to ensure a 10th straight victory. After winning 4-1 at Derby to reach the FA Cup quarter-finals, the Scot will bring back his big names including the goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, who is chasing a 14th successive clean sheet in the league.

The forward Wayne Rooney will start on the bench with Ferguson saying he was "back to his best" after missing a month with a hamstring injury. Mike Phelan, the United assistant manager, said the coaching staff would not let the players rest on their laurels. "We can't be complacent.We strive to be winners: that's the way it is here," he said. "We have to do our jobs well because otherwise we wouldn't be here."
