UAE shooter Abdullah Sultan Al Aryani won a third silver medal at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro when he finished as the runner-up in the R6 – mixed 50m rifle prone SH1 final on Wednesday.

Al Aryani, 46, who won gold at the same event in London four years ago, came up short this time when he scored 206.5 points to finish just 0.3 points behind eventual champion Zhang Cuiping of China.

Serbia’s Suranji Laslo won the bronze medal after he finished with 185.2 points.

Abdullah Saif Al Aryani, 40, who also made it to the final on Wednesday, ended in eighth position with a score of 78.1 points.

This was Al Aryani’s third silver at Rio 2016 after he placed second in the 10m air rifle event on the opening day of action last Thursday and the R7 men’s 50m rifle three positions SH1 competition four days later. His total medal tally makes him the UAE’s most decorated athlete.

Earlier in the day, both shooters qualified for the final after shooting 619.5-00x and 616.4-00x. Saif Al Nuimi, who was the third Emirati in the competition, did not make the eight-personnel field after placing 25th in the 41-strong contest.

The UAE have collected four medals so far, which include the three silvers that Al Aryani has won and a gold by powerlifter Mohammed Khalaf.
