DUBAI // The UAE were left counting the cost of a bruising day at the ICC Academy, after three of their bowlers missed a significant amount of the defeat to Pakistan A on Saturday.
The tourists edged into a 2-1 lead in the five-match series after Sohaib Maqsood inspired a 54-run win for his side at Sports City.
Maqsood, the Pakistan A team captain, had to retire with an injured hand, having reached 79 from 59 balls.
It said much about the workload of the national team’s players – many of whom are also involved in the Kerala Premier League – that several fell foul of strain injuries.
Kamran Shahzad, the fast bowler, had to stop bowling four deliveries into his sixth over because of an adductor strain.
Mohammed Shahzad, the all-rounder, was unable to bowl because of a groin injury, while Majula Guruge, the left-armer, had just five overs before falling foul of cramp.
Khurram Khan, the returning captain, and Krishna Karate both made fifties, having earlier filled the bowling breach by sending down 10 overs each.
The victory target of 272, however, proved too substantial.
