The International Cricket Council (ICC) have been impressed by the security arrangements being made in Pakistan ahead of the Champions Trophy to be held from Sept 11 to 28. The delegation have, however, all but ruled out Rawalpindi as one of the venues for the tournament. The city, which last hosted a one-day international in Dec 2006, has suffered several terrorist atacks in the past year including the assassination of the former prime minister Benazir Bhutto in December.
The delegation is likely to have the five matches to have been hosted in Rawalpindi, shifted to Karachi and Lahore. The ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat, though, lauded the Pakistan government for their proactive measures in the turn of events. "The attitude and willingness of the Pakistan government to implement security measures was very positive," he said. @Email:sports@thenational.ae
