Pro League round-up: Al Ain thrash Kalba

Top send Kalba back to bottom with a six nil defeat, and Dibba climb with their first league win.

Al Ain asserted their position at the top of the table and consigned Kalba to another resounding defeat.

Mohamed Ahmed opened the scoring just before half time and got a second after the break, while Omar Abdulrahman (2), Kembo Akoko, and Asamoah Gyan, back from Ghana after his mother died, added to the score.

There was nothing to separate these two middle-of-the-table sides at Hamdan bin Zayed Stadium yesterday.

Fawzi Bashir grabbed the lead for the home side and looked to have won the game, but Dubai's Ahmed Mallah levelled with five minutes remaining to take a share of the points.

To add to Al Dhafra's woes, Hassan Zahran was sent off in injury time and is now facing suspension.

Dibba Al Fujairah climbed off the bottom of the table thanks to a late winner from Brazilian striker Alex against Al Wasl last night.

Combined with Kalba's thrashing at Al Ain, the victory meant they edged a point ahead of their fellow promoted team.

Dibba are now one point behind Al Shabab - who face Al Jazira today - and Ajman. Wasl struck after eight minutes through Emiliano Alfaro before Luiz Fernando equalised 11 minutes later.
