Dubai Falcons Racing have moved to the top of the rankings in the 2013 Kartdrome Endurance Championship after powering to victory in the Kartdrome 700 Kilometres race on Saturday at Dubai Autodrome.
CG Racing Pro had led the early exchanges of the race, which began on Friday night, but their hopes were hit by a safety-car period which allowed the Dubai Falcons team to move ahead and open up a gap. They would go on to win the race by 20.577 seconds.
CG Racing Pro were second, and one of their drivers, Alban Varutti set the fastest lap of the 12-hour race with a time of one minute, 12.536 seconds.
Sheikh Hasher Al Maktoum, one of Dubai Falcons Racing’s drivers, said: “We recovered from a bad start. CG Racing Pro were not very lucky and the safety car might have cost them the race.
“But as long as we are winning and leading, we are very happy. I want to thank our whole team. Everyone had a big role in this win and now we look forward the next one.”
Teammate Mohammed Al Mutawaa added: “We did not stop pushing, even the last 10 laps with a 20-second advantage and all the way to the end.”
The victory gives Dubai Falcons the lead in the overall standings with the decisive final round to take place in December, also at the Kartdrome.
Team Emirates Racing were triumphant in the corporate category, overcoming an early penalty to finish ahead of Action Racing.
“This is really a great win for us,” Emirates Racing’s Jiby Kuriakose said. “We have been doing karting as a team for a couple of years now and this is our first victory.
“We are really excited about this achievement.”
