Champion Al Faisal aims to end Porsche GT3 season on a high

The Saudi Arabian won the title in Qatar, but wants to enjoy winning feeling at final rounds in Bahrain.

Abdulaziz Al Faisal has already won the Porsche GT3 title for a second time in three years.

Saudi Arabia's Abdulaziz Al Faisal is targeting a double race victory in Bahrain to round off his triumphant campaign in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East.

After clinching his second GT3 Cup title in three years at Qatar's Losail International Circuit last week, Abdulaziz is determined finish the season in style by winning the last two rounds of the one-make series at Bahrain International Circuit on March 30-31.

"From the start of the season I've gone into each race with the aim to win it, and nothing changes," he said. "I didn't expect to make sure of the championship in Qatar, but now that I have some of the pressure is off and I have nothing to lose.

"It's been a tough season, with very little separating the top five or six drivers, and the fact that we've had four different race winners shows how competitive the championship has become.

He added: "Bahrain will be fifth circuit we've raced at this season and each of them has something different, so you have to be able to adapt. After our first night races in Qatar it's another challenge in Bahrain, and I'm looking forward to it.

"I won the first GT3 Cup race there and I'd like to finish with two more wins, although it's going to be difficult because all of the guys will be looking to round off the season with a good performance."

His triumph in the ninth round in Qatar was his fourth success of the season and his 19th overall since the Porsche GT3 Cup series was launched.

After dominating the inaugural season with nine wins in 12 races, Abdulaziz scored another six victories last season. But has been under more pressure this time, with young Austrian Clemens Schmid also clocking up four race wins and Saudi Bandar Alesayi and Ahmad Al Harthy grabbing one each.

While the overall drivers' title is already decided, two other important issues will be decided in Bahrain, as Qatar's Saadon Al Kuwari aims to wrap up the Michelin Silver Trophy in the intermediate class and German driver looks to secure the Mobil 1 Trophy in the bronze category.

Both hold big leads but know that a non-finish in Bahrain - a fate endured by Alesayi in Round 10, ending out his hopes of denying Al Faisal the title - could produce a tense climax to the season.
