No changes for rugby

I never bother making New Year's resolutions, as I always break them which just leaves me feeling depressed and ready for another cigarette/cream cake, or whatever it is I have resolved to give up, so instead let me bestow upon rugby union worldwide a New Year's resolution; no more rule changes. Over the past 10 years, there has been too much tinkering with the game, particularly in areas like the scrum, which has led to a sport which was complicated enough to start with becoming angled even more to the purist. At its simplest, it is a great game, so let us forget the technicalities for a season or two and concentrate on exciting running and passing rugby, which remains what all but a few rule wonks want to see.
