Nigeria’s national football team will face off with Yaya Toure’s Ivory Coast side on Sunday in Abu Dhabi at Zayed Sports City Stadium, organisers announced on Wednesday.
International match organising firm EvolSport announced the match would be at 8.30pm on Sunday, with matchday ticketing starting at Dh35.
The company tweeted, “#CAN2015 Preparation in Abu Dhabi, Ivory Coast vs Nigeria, 11th January, kick off at 20.30 in Zayed Sport City,” with a photo of Yaya Toure.
Zayed Sports City's Facebook page confirmed the match in a post, saying, "They're back! The Ivory Coast Football Team will return to Zayed Sports City with Yaya Toure to play a friendly match against the Nigerian national team next Sunday".
Zayed Sports City’s Facebook posting announced another match, with Ivory Coast playing Sweden on January 15.
Yaya Toure is no stranger to Abu Dhabi, having been here multiple occasions with Manchester City, the most recent trip coming during their tour of the UAE following their 2013/14 Premier League title.
Nigeria can also expect major support – "Super Eagles" fans packed Abu Dhabi stadiums during Nigeria's run to the Under 17 World Cup title here in 2013, particularly the final at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium.
The match will serve as a warmup for Ivory Coast before the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations tournament starting on January 19 in Equatorial Guinea.
Nigeria, the Africa Cup of Nations title holders, did not qualify for the 2015 tournament.
