New blow for Al Wasl as board quits again following poor Pro League performances

The Zabeel Stadium side's board will step aside for the second time in a year after four coaching changes since dismissing Diego Maradona last summer failed to revitalise the club.

Beleaguered Al Wasl have been hit with another blow to their already crisis-ridden year after the club's board resigned for the second time in a season.

The club confirmed last night that the board had collectively stepped down, believed to be in response to the club's poor Pro League form.

Details of who will replace the current administration have not yet been announced.

It marks the second time in a year that the board has resigned, following the departure of the previous regime after the club's failures last season under Diego Maradona.

Since Maradona's departure, the club has appointed four managers in a bid to drag them clear of the bottom of the table. Bruno Metsu, the former UAE national coach, was named as Maradona's replacement but was forced to stand down through illness just weeks into the job.

His assistant Gilles Morisseau took temporary charge following Metsu's illness, but left in short order after the side were hammered 5-0 by Al Ain. Former PSG manager Guy Lacombe took charge in November, but was dismissed last month after failing to turn things around.

Former UAE under-17 coach Eid Baroot, who had caretaker spells at Emirates, Al Dhafra and Al Nasr, was appointed until the end of the season.
