Monday cover: Zlatan Ibrahimovic makes a sudden impact for victorious Manchester United

Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored the third of Manchester United’s three goals in their opening-fixture win over Bournemouth. The 3 points and 2-goal difference are good enough to shoot new manager Jose Mourinho’s men straight to the top of the Week 1 Premier League table – and onto The National’s sports cover for Monday, August 15, 2016.

Juan Mata and Wayne Rooney also scored for United. Premier League correspondent Richard Jolly wrote about how it was the perfect start for a new era at United.

In Sunday’s other fixture, heavyweights Liverpool and Arsenal squared off for the opening weekend’s marquee game. It was Brazilian Philippe Coutinho who stole the show, scoring twice and assisting on a third goal. Liverpool needed every bit of it to hold off Arsenal in a 4-3 win.

Greg Lea wrote about the man of the match, whom manager Jurgen Klopp called 'genius'.

We also have a full round-up of Week 1 fixtures, which close Monday night when Chelsea meets West Ham United.
