Monday cover: Master Stokes sends record tumbling as England take command of second Test

England all-rounder Ben Stokes smashes his way onto The National Sport front page on Monday, January 4 after his record-breaking double hundred against South Africa at Newlands.

Stokes reeled off 258 runs in just 198 balls, the fastest double ton by an England batsman in history (beating Ian Botham’s record by 57 balls) and the second-fastest in history.

Along with Jonny Bairstow, who notched an unbeaten 150, England took control of the second Test in Cape Town, declaring on 629-6.

In reply, South Africa were rattled early at 7-1 after losing Stiaan van Zyl, although captain Hashim Amla (64 and star batsman AB De Villiers (25) steadied the ship to close Day 2 on 141-2.
