The National’s Sport cover of the Monday, October 13 issue, featuring Australia’s double-wicket maiden final over to clinch a one-day series whitewash over Pakistan in Abu Dhabi.
Covering the match, Osman Samiuddin writes of how embattled Pakistan one-day captain Misbah-ul-Haq was the real winner on Sunday.
“If Pakistan had won Sunday night, it would not have been easy to remove Afridi. They did not – Afridi fell to another abysmal dismissal to boot – and the ball remains in Misbah’s court,” he writes.
But, the match also showed, “in truth, the problems with Pakistan run far deeper than any individual”.
Osman goes on to report this morning that Misbah himself says if he can't pick up his form, he's prepared for permanent relief of his one-day captaining duties.
