Liverpool's hunt for a new manager looks set to focus once again on Wales as speculation mounts that Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers is in pole position for the job.
Wigan boss Roberto Martinez had been the long-time front-runner to succeed Kenny Dalglish, but Rodgers' return from a short trip to New York has moved him ahead in betting on the next manager.
Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group have already been rebuffed once in a request to speak to the Swansea manager since Dalglish was sacked at the end of last season.
The 39-year-old Northern Irishman met with Swans chairman Huw Jenkins at the Liberty Stadium in what the club stressed was a meeting scheduled well before new reports linked Rodgers with Merseyside.
Swansea are on the verge of completing a club-record £6.8 million (AED 39.1m) transfer for on-loan Hoffenheim midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson and are interested in a loan deal for Tottenham's out-of-favour Giovani dos Santos - whom Rodgers watched on Sunday as a guest of the Football Association of Wales for the friendly against Mexico in New Jersey.
However, despite suggestions elsewhere that Rodgers had already been offered the Liverpool job, the club refused to comment officially on their manager's position.
