Kalba inflict a second straight defeat on Al Wahda

Pro League champions lose again.

Mohammed Malalla was on target twice as Kalba fired home five goals in the first 54 minutes to shock Pro League champions Al Wahda 5-3 last night.

It was only the second victory this season in 13 Pro League matches for Kalba, the promoted side from the east-coast Sharjah enclave.

Ismail Matar scored three times for Wahda, running his season tally to five, but he had very little support as the Abu Dhabi club collapsed five days after a bitter 2-1 home defeat to Al Ahli.

Kalba's first goal should not have been allowed to stand; replays indicated that a volley by the Brazilian Kanu in the second minute never crossed the goalline. No doubt surrounded the home side's other four goals, however. Besides Malalla's two, Kalba also had goals from the Frenchman Gregory Dufrennes and the midfielder Mansour Mohammed, who rifled a 35-metre rocket past the beleaguered Wahda goalkeeper Mutaz Abdullah.

Elsewhere last night, Saeed al Kas and Omran Abdulrahman scored second-half goals as Al Wasl defeated Al Ahli in a Dubai derby.

Ahli, who saw their upward surge in the table interrupted, played with 10 men in the second half after Ismail al Hammadi was sent off for diving in the box.
