Ibrahim Diaky, the Al Jazira midfielder, is confident he can secure a move to Al Ahli.
He has turned down an offer from Al Ain, the Pro League champions, but a final decision on his destination may rest with Jazira, his employers for the last nine years.
The midfielder, 31, has a contract with the Abu Dhabi club through 2014, but wants to move to Dubai club Ahli.
"Although Al Ain has offered me an attractive offer, my heart is set on playing for Ahli," Diaky told the Arabic daily Al Bayan.
"I have already discussed the financial terms and the period of my contract with officials at Ahli.
"Hopefully they can take it further ahead and come to a settlement with Jazira soon.
"Some may wonder why I would turn down an offer from Al Ain. I feel they have plenty of good players like Asamoah Gyan and Omar Abdulrahman, so they will not need me as Ahli would want me.
"I feel I can fit into the Ahli set-up better and can play a more active role in the team than in Al Ain."
A move will be possible only if Jazira agree on a transfer and Diaky is aware of it.
"I am hopeful we can come in to an amicable settlement," he said.
"I have had a wonderful time at Jazira. Everyone has been very supportive of me, but the time has come for me to move on."
Meanwhile, Al Wahda have signed the Chilean midfielder Marcos Estrada to a three-year deal from French club Montpellier, to replace the Croatian Srdan Andric.
Estrada, 29, has 33 caps for his country. He spent the last three seasons in Ligue 1 in France.
