VALENCIA // Valencia vice president Fernando Gomez insists they have yet to receive a formal offer for striker David Villa, but admits they could be tempted by a ?50million (Dh271m). Spanish media reports on Monday suggested Valencia had turned down an offer of around ?47m from Real Madrid for the Spain international, whose future has been a hot topic this summer. However, no bid has been put before Valencia, according to Gomez. "There is no offer for Villa and if one arrives we hope it will be as soon as possible, [although] we hope one never comes."
Valencia have set their stall out to keep Villa and his fellow Spainiard David Silva at the club next season, but while Silva's future with Los Che has been secured due to an improved contract, Gomez admits a big-money bid for Villa could lead to some serious thinking at the Mestalla. "It would be very difficult to see Villa leave Valencia," said Gomez, who added a hypothetical bid of ?50m would be "a good offer, but I cannot assure that we would say yes to it".
