Argentine football legend Diego Maradona has said his former club Napoli are likely to sell striker Gonzalo Higuain this summer, and has urged the Italian club to sign Harry Kane as his replacement.

Higuain, 28, is in scintillating form this season and leads the Serie A scoring charts with 30 goals in 32 matches to guide Napoli to second in the table.

His form has led to ongoing speculation regarding his future, with various clubs around Europe including Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Paris Saint-Germain, interested in his services.

Maradona, who is considered a legend at Napoli for the seven years he spent at the club, during which time he won two Serie A titles and a Coppa Italia, is convinced Higuain will be sold this summer.

"I know the president and I think he will sell Higuain," Maradona, 55, is quoted as saying by Marca. "We have already seen what happened with Ezequiel Lavezzi and how Napoli used the money efficiently."

“You can build a great team with the money made from a big sale. You need to see new faces on the field and this can happen if they sell Higuain for a high price.”

Should Higuain leave Napoli, it would leave a large void in the team, but Maradona has said Tottenham striker Kane, who has scored 24 Premier League goals this season, should be the No 1 target to replace his compatriot.

“It’s not easy to replace Higuain, but if it were up to me I would choose Harry Kane from Tottenham,” said Maradona, who had a spell in UAE football as manager of Al Wasl. “I don’t know how much he would cost, but I would sign him up without hesitation.”
