Italy captain and influential back-row forward Sergio Parisse was yesterday suspended for eight weeks after being found guilty of eye gouging. Parisse was cited after the Test in Christchurch on Saturday for "contact with the eyes or eye area" of New Zealand lock Isaac Ross. The All Blacks won the match 27-6. After viewing footage of the incident and hearing evidence from Parisse and match officials, judicial officer Paul Tully decided the action fell within the lower range of offending, as it was reckless and not deemed intentional, which has an entry point of 12 weeks suspension.
However, in light of mitigating factors, which included the fact contact was brief, had occurred in the open, there was no injury to Ross's eye and the initial contact had been with the cheek, Tully decided eight weeks was sufficient punishment. Parisse's suspension will begin on Aug 2 - the start of the Italian club season. Meanwhile, Australia coach Robbie Deans believes his team are well placed heading into the Tri-Nations after they extended their early season winning streak to four matches with a 16-point triumph over France.
The Wallabies backed up big wins over the Barbarians and Italy (twice) with a solid showing against a French side which pushed New Zealand to the limit in their recent drawn series. Deans said: "It's been a solid month for us, it's been a really good background for us and that was a better than solid performance to be fair. There were elements in there that we've been working on that we've had some visible growth in.
"Defence is obvious, the way the boys played the full 80 minutes, it was a full team effort." He added: "That's encouraging because we know from here we're going to get a serious test, in the Tri-Nations." * With agencies

Common OCD symptoms and how they manifest
Checking: the obsession or thoughts focus on some harm coming from things not being as they should, which usually centre around the theme of safety. For example, the obsession is “the building will burn down”, therefore the compulsion is checking that the oven is switched off.
Contamination: the obsession is focused on the presence of germs, dirt or harmful bacteria and how this will impact the person and/or their loved ones. For example, the obsession is “the floor is dirty; me and my family will get sick and die”, the compulsion is repetitive cleaning.
Orderliness: the obsession is a fear of sitting with uncomfortable feelings, or to prevent harm coming to oneself or others. Objectively there appears to be no logical link between the obsession and compulsion. For example,” I won’t feel right if the jars aren’t lined up” or “harm will come to my family if I don’t line up all the jars”, so the compulsion is therefore lining up the jars.
Intrusive thoughts: the intrusive thought is usually highly distressing and repetitive. Common examples may include thoughts of perpetrating violence towards others, harming others, or questions over one’s character or deeds, usually in conflict with the person’s true values. An example would be: “I think I might hurt my family”, which in turn leads to the compulsion of avoiding social gatherings.
Hoarding: the intrusive thought is the overvaluing of objects or possessions, while the compulsion is stashing or hoarding these items and refusing to let them go. For example, “this newspaper may come in useful one day”, therefore, the compulsion is hoarding newspapers instead of discarding them the next day.

UK's plans to cut net migration
Under the UK government’s proposals, migrants will have to spend 10 years in the UK before being able to apply for citizenship.
Skilled worker visas will require a university degree, and there will be tighter restrictions on recruitment for jobs with skills shortages.
But what are described as "high-contributing" individuals such as doctors and nurses could be fast-tracked through the system.
Language requirements will be increased for all immigration routes to ensure a higher level of English.
Rules will also be laid out for adult dependants, meaning they will have to demonstrate a basic understanding of the language.
The plans also call for stricter tests for colleges and universities offering places to foreign students and a reduction in the time graduates can remain in the UK after their studies from two years to 18 months.
