NORTON // Vijay Singh, helped by three monster birdie putts, eased to his third PGA Tour title in five weeks with a commanding five-shot victory at the Deutsche Bank Championship. Three off the pace going into the last day on Monday, the Fijian world No 5 fired a superb eight-under-par 63 for a 22-under total of 262 to take the honours at the event in Boston.
Singh, 45, broke clear of a congested leaderboard with an outward nine of four-under 32 before tightening his grip with an astonishing display that saw him roll in putts on a course running fast and firm. On a day when the average score was only 72, Singh's sensational effort ensured that he was a more than deserving champion. He said: "It was a tough day but I drove the ball beautifully and kept the ball in play, never got myself into much trouble.
"I've never felt this comfortable on the greens. But I have been struggling all year but I had a good attitude change." The Canadian Mike Weir, one ahead going into the final round, surrendered the outright lead with a double-bogey at the ninth and had to settle for second place after closing with a 71 as he proved to be no match to the excellent play of Singh. The South African Ernie Els birdied the last for a round of 70 to share third place overall at 14 under with the Colombian Camilo Villegas (73).
Singh, who also triumphed at the same event in 2004 to end Tiger Woods's five-year reign as world No 1, travels to St Louis for this week's BMW Championship as the runaway FedExCup points leader. What drives subscription retailing?
Once the domain of newspaper home deliveries, subscription model retailing has combined with e-commerce to permeate myriad products and services.
The concept has grown tremendously around the world and is forecast to thrive further, according to UnivDatos Market Insights’ report on recent and predicted trends in the sector.
The global subscription e-commerce market was valued at $13.2 billion (Dh48.5bn) in 2018. It is forecast to touch $478.2bn in 2025, and include the entertainment, fitness, food, cosmetics, baby care and fashion sectors.
The report says subscription-based services currently constitute “a small trend within e-commerce”. The US hosts almost 70 per cent of recurring plan firms, including leaders Dollar Shave Club, Hello Fresh and Netflix. Walmart and Sephora are among longer established retailers entering the space.
UnivDatos cites younger and affluent urbanites as prime subscription targets, with women currently the largest share of end-users.
That’s expected to remain unchanged until 2025, when women will represent a $246.6bn market share, owing to increasing numbers of start-ups targeting women.
Personal care and beauty occupy the largest chunk of the worldwide subscription e-commerce market, with changing lifestyles, work schedules, customisation and convenience among the chief future drivers.

Day 4, Dubai Test: At a glance
Moment of the day Lahiru Gamage appeared to have been hard done by when he had his dismissal of Sami Aslam chalked off for a no-ball. Replays suggested he had not overstepped. No matter. Two balls later, the exact same combination – Gamage the bowler and Kusal Mendis at second slip – combined again to send Aslam back.
Stat of the day Haris Sohail took three wickets for one run in the only over he bowled, to end the Sri Lanka second innings in a hurry. That was as many as he had managed in total in his 10-year, 58-match first-class career to date. It was also the first time a bowler had taken three wickets having bowled just one over in an innings in Tests.
The verdict Just 119 more and with five wickets remaining seems like a perfectly attainable target for Pakistan. Factor in the fact the pitch is worn, is turning prodigiously, and that Sri Lanka’s seam bowlers have also been finding the strip to their liking, it is apparent the task is still a tough one. Still, though, thanks to Asad Shafiq and Sarfraz Ahmed, it is possible.
