Bernd Ritthammer remained at the top of the leaderboard at the European Challenge Tour’s Race to Oman finale on Friday.
Ritthammer, 29, shot a 5-under 67 in the third round for a two-shot lead at the NBO Golf Classic Grand Final. The German will enter Saturday’s final round on 18-under, two ahead of Frenchman Matthieu Pavon on 16-under, and three ahead of New Zealand’s Ryan Fox on 15-under.
“It doesn’t matter too much what happens here with me, but I do still really want to win,” said Ritthammer in a release. “It would be very special to win the Grand Final as it is very different to all the other tournaments and I would love to do it.
“If you’re in a good position then expectations rise, but I am trying to stay the same as I was coming into this week because I was playing without any pressure.
“It wasn’t as easy as yesterday. I hit a couple of wayward shots on the front nine but managed to make some good saves, and I am pleased with not dropping a shot today.
“I am slightly surprised with the scoring today as the pins were a lot tougher and I have seen there are a lot of guys that are chasing me with plenty of low scores. It is going to be tough tomorrow but I am ready for it.”
The top 16 in the Race to Oman rankings at the end of the tournament will earn their European Tour cards.
