DUBAI // Stephen Dodd is confident his fine start to the Mena Tour can provide the catalyst to reigniting his career.
The Welshman, a three-time winner on the European Tour, finished runner-up to Zane Scotland at Dubai Creek yesterday, carding a final round two-under par 69 to seal the US$6,000 (Dh22,000) cheque for second place.
Dodd has suffered an alarming dip in form following standout seasons in 2005 and 2006, in which time he collected a trio of titles and finished second to Ernie Els at the Dubai Desert Classic.
However, the 46 year old lost his card last year, prompting his participation in the Mena Tour as he looks to get his game in shape for Tour School in November.
"Take that away, I played really well this week and have every reason to feel satisfied," Dodd said when asked about the double-bogey on 13, which effectively ended his challenge.
"Though I am still nowhere near my best, I am getting slowly and steadily there.
"I've been injured a lot this year so haven't played a huge amount of golf. Six tournaments last year were nowhere near enough. That is why these next six weeks are so important for me."
Dodd was two shots adrift of Scotland, with Mohammed Munir, the Pakistan No 3, one stroke further back on five-under par.
"I was very much in the mix when I eagled 10 and picked up a shot on 13," said Munir after his final round 69.
"But a couple of three putts, especially on the 18th, did not help my case. However, it was still a good start to the tour."

Do your homework
Make sure that you are being offered a fair salary. There is lots of industry data available, and you can always talk to people who have come out of the organisation. Where I see people coming a cropper is where they haven’t done their homework.
Don’t be afraid to negotiate
It’s quite standard to negotiate if you think an offer is on the low side. The job is unlikely to be withdrawn if you ask for money, and if that did happen I’d question whether you want to work for an employer who is so hypersensitive.
Know your worth
Women tend to be a bit more reticent to talk about their achievements. In my experience they need to have more confidence in their own abilities – men will big up what they’ve done to get a pay rise, and to compete women need to turn up the volume.
Work together
If you suspect men in your organisation are being paid more, look your boss in the eye and say, “I want you to assure me that I’m paid equivalent to my peers”. If you’re not getting a straight answer, talk to your peer group and consider taking direct action to fix inequality.
