Rafael Furcal, the Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop, is expected to rejoin the team today, two days after his father died from injuries sustained when a horse kicked him in the chest. Silvino Furcal died following complications from surgery in Loma de Cabrera, Dominican Republic, three weeks after the accident, which occurred when the elder Furcal was attempting to saddle a horse on the family farm.
Rafael Furcal left the Dodgers last week and has missed four games so far. The club had placed him on the bereavement list and replaced him on the roster with infielder Chin-lung Hu. It is not known if Furcal, the club's leadoff hitter, will play tonight when the Dodgers face their cross-town rivals, the Angels.
