Roberto Martinez makes the cover of The National Sport on May 13, 2016 after the 42-year-old Spaniard was sacked as Everton manager on Thursday evening.
Martinez had been in charge at Goodison Park for three years, but a dire run of form which has returned just one win in Everton’s last 10 games, with the latest setback a 3-0 defeat against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Wednesday proving thefinal straw.
Richard Jolly argues Everton did the right thing by putting the affable Spaniard out of his misery, rather than subject him to a cauldron of vitriol in front of home fans in Sunday's final Premier League game of 2016/16 against Norwich City.
Former Ajax manager Frank de Boer, outgoing Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini, and former Everton manager David Moyes are the early favourites to succeed Martinez.
