The National’s Sport cover for the Friday, September 26 issue, features Sheikh Juma bin Dalmook Al Maktoum, who won the bronze medal for the UAE in the double trap shooting event at the Asian Games in South Korea. It was the first medal for the UAE at these Asian Games.
In the 27-man morning qualification session, Sheikh Juma shot 139 from his five rounds, leaving him second to Kuwait’s Fehaid Al Deehani. The UAE’s Saif Al Shamsi was 10th, with 133, and Khaled Al Kaabi was in 22nd.
The top six qualified for the semi-final stages, where Sheikh Juma was just one shot off making the final, where the gold medal was decided. He finished with 28 points, leaving him in the bronze-medal match.
Al Deehani was one shot ahead in second, while China’s Binyuan Hu shot a perfect round of 30 and ultimately won gold at the expense of his Kuwaiti opponent.
In the bronze-medal match, Sheikh Juma shot 29 to beat Qatar’s Rashid Al Athba, adding to the silver medal he won in Guangzhou four years ago.
In the team event, Qatar took gold from China, with Kuwait in third. The UAE were fifth.
