World No 1 Serena Williams is on The National Sports front page on Friday, July 8, 2016 as she breezed into her ninth Wimbledon final by demolishing unseeded Russian Elena Vesnina in just 49 minutes on Thursday. It was the fastest ever semi-final at the All England Club.

Williams, who faces Australian Open winner Angelique Kerber in Saturday’s championship match, fired 11 aces, 28 winners and committed just seven unforced errors, breaking serve five times to reach her 28th grand slam final.

From the moment the 34-year-old nonchalantly broke serve in the opening game the writing was on the wall for a leaden-footed Vesnina appearing in her first grand slam semi-final.

By the time the latecomers took their seats two games later Serena was 3-0 ahead and her place in a ninth Wimbledon title already looked in the bag.
