West Ham determined to replace Lanzini if he moves to Liverpool

Manager of London club pleased with signings but is concerned his side could still lose former Al Jazira player as transfer deadline approaches.

West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic is keen to bring in one more player before the transfer window closes on August 31 but concedes he may have to rush through another deal if he loses someone from his tight squad.

West Ham have strengthened with five new players including striker Javier Hernandez, defender Pablo Zabaleta and winger Marko Arnautovic but there has been speculation Argentine Manuel Lanzini was being lined up by Liverpool.

"We will see what happens in the last week of the transfer window, if somebody is going to leave or come in," Bilic said ahead of Wednesday's League Cup match against Cheltenham Town.

"I'm happy with the squad now. I would like to have one more and after that, if somebody leaves we have to fill that gap because we don't have a big squad ... We are happy but if somebody leaves we have to be ready to act."

West Ham, who have lost their opening two league games of the new season, travel to Newcastle United when Premier League action resumes on Saturday.

Leicester City must maintain squad depth to deal with the demands of the Premier League season, manager Craig Shakespeare said on Tuesday after giving several fringe players a run-out in a 4-1 League Cup win at Sheffield United.

Shakespeare was impressed with forwards Islam Slimani and Ahmed Musa, as well as England Under 21 winger Demarai Gray, who all scored in the cup win.

"It was important to give the fringe players, or those who haven't played, some game time and when you do that you hope they'll respond in the right way," Shakespeare said.

"They're part of the squad and they carry on.

"We'll need everyone as we go along because it's a tough old season in the Premier League and whether it's a loss of form, a change of tactics or injuries, you have all that to contend with."

Leicester travel to face leaders Manchester United in the league on Saturday.

Clucas to bring versatility to Swansea

Swansea City manager Paul Clement says Sam Clucas will offer the side versatility after the midfielder completes his move from Hull City but is still keen to bring in more signings before the transfer window closes.

British media put the fee for the 26-year-old player at around £15 million (Dh70.53m).

"He is a good footballer and that is what we want here," Clement said. "The fact he can play in so many positions reinforces that he is a good footballer.

"This is the first one [signing] in the latter parts of the window and hopefully we can do a couple more," Clement said after Tuesday's 4-1 win over MK Dons in the League Cup.

Swansea return to Premier League action on Saturday when they travel to Crystal Palace.
