Tottenham forward Son Heung-min is aiming to complete his mandatory four-week national service in South Korea.
The 27-year-old returned to his country last week following the shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. He is waiting for confirmation that the Premier League suspension will be extended beyond April 30, according to Press Association.
Son is currently in a two-week quarantine after flying in from London. He is required by law to serve a mandatory four-week national service in the South Korean military. The actual duration of mandatory service is 21 months, but Son earned an exemption in 2018 when he was part of the South Korea team that won the Asian Games.
Son is currently recovering from a broken arm, and will see this as a perfect opportunity to carry out his service without impacting his career.
He is hoping to start on April 20 and is reported to be serving in the Military Corps.
Son should be able to complete his service and return to the UK in time for the resumption of the league, whenever that might be.
It has been a turbulent few weeks for Son, who was only back in London for a few weeks having returned to Seoul for surgery on his broken arm in February.
Upon his return to the UK, he was forced into two weeks of isolation and was at the club's Hotspur Way training complex for a week before it was closed.
