Steve Bruce, right, wants to add quality to his Hull City side ahead of a continental clash with Lokeren of Belgium, but the resurgence of key substitute Sone Aluko may ease his concerns.
Aluko’s late winner on Thursday fired Hull into their Uefa Europa League play-off round at the expense of AS Trencin.
“Sone has looked the best I’ve seen him in seven years, physically,” Bruce said, referring to the player’s history of injury. “He’s got terrific ability, so let’s hope he stays injury free.”
Bruce still wants more depth in his side as they move ahead in their first European campaign.
“I’ll always be knocking on the door,” he said.
“I don’t think any manager is ever finished, and the day I say ‘no’ is the day I may as well pack it in. We’re looking to improve. I had five people not stripped today – Harry Maguire, Andrew Robertson, Nikica Jelavic, Maynor Figueroa and George Boyd. We’ve got healthy competition all round, but if there’s a bit of quality then I’ll try.”
