Real Madrid's Zinedine Zidane admits Atletico were 'better at everything' after humiliating 7-3 defeat

A frustrated Zinedine Zidane said he would not linger on Real Madrid's heavy 7-3 pre-season loss to Atletico Madrid in the United States.

But he admitted that Aletico had been "better at everything" while vowing his side would bounce back and be ready for the start of the La Liga season in August.

Real had failed to convince in their previous pre-season games in the United States, losing to Bayern Munich and winning a penalty shoot-out against Arsenal after they had been two down during the game.

But Friday in New Jersey was a fresh low as Diego Costa scored four times for Atletico, with Joao Felix, Angel Correa and Vitolo also on the scoresheet.

Real were 7-1 down, with Nacho on target for Zidane's side, before Karim Benzema and Javi Hernandez scored late consolations.

"You don't have to spin it over," Zidane said in his post-match news conference. "It's a pre-season game. They've been better at everything. There is nothing more to talk about.

"We are preparing a season and being calm. We have to be ready on August 17, with the first league game. For now, we have lacked things for sure tonight."

Atletico coach Diego Simeone said that he saw things in Real's previous games he thought his team could target.

"Having seen Madrid, we looked for where we could harm them," Simeone said. "We tried to find good places at the exit of the ball and we were very precise, that in football it is important.

"We have had a great time here."
